ALUMNI BANQUET
August 11, 2007

The Oakland Alumni Association held their annual banquet at John Martin’s Manor on August 11 with 226 alumni and guests present. The Oakland Alumni Association was established in 1920 for the Oakland High School and now includes alumni of Williams High School and Messalonskee High School.

The oldest attendee was Dwight Taylor from the Williams High
School class of 1929 and the youngest was Shawntyl Miller from the class of 2004 at Messalonskee. Dwight enjoyed being “Roasted” by Linda Grady who made a humorous presentation with pictures of him at the time of his graduation from Williams High School and as he looks today. The Class of 1957 had 32 in attendance to help celebrate their 50th Reunion. The “Response” from the Class of ’57 was given by the President of the class, Dick Hallee.

Leatrice Grevois won the Barbara Marston Door Prize and Don Farnham won the 50/50 drawing. Retired teachers, Arthur Clark, Helen Gallagher, and Althea Jewett, were guests at the luncheon.

The Eagle award which is presented annually to someone who has performed outstanding service to their community was presented to Charles Pullen from the class of 1959 at Williams High. After graduation Charles served in the U.S. Army and then worked at Pullen Ford for many years. Charles joined the Oakland Fire Department while he was in high school and recently retired after 25 years as its Fire Chief.

Alumni officers for 2008 are Dana Wrigley President, Alice Wrigley V. President, Fran King Secretary, and Allen Charles Treasurer.

The 2008 banquet will be held at the Waterville Elks Club on August 9. 2008.
